Frequently asked questions for stripe merchants

Q: Why Stripe?

A: The main advantage of using Stripe as one of your payment gateways is that it reduces the friction encountered by your customer during checkout (less fields to populate). Next, the official Stripe transaction charges are also lower than the official PayPal transaction charges (keyword being official as some merchants may be getting preferential rates). It is also easy to get started with Stripe. The whole Stripe account setup process takes less than 15 minutes to complete.

Q: I have not heard of them. How secure is Stripe?

A: Stripe is certified to be a PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of security certification available.

Q: How does Stripe mitigate the risks of fraud?

A: Similar to all other payment gateways like PayPal, Stripe has a proprietary method of evaluating transactions for fraud. If a transaction has been detected as being potentially fraudulent, Stripe will block the transaction.

Q: I have a customer who is disputing a particular charge as being unauthorized, what is the dispute resolution process?

A: When a customer raises a dispute and/or chargeback, an investigation will be opened by Stripe. Based on the evidence submitted by both the customer and the merchant, Stripe will determine whether a dispute is legitimate. For more details, please see the Disputes section over at the Stripe knowledge base here.
